Shipping an item from an independent artisan in Thailand to anywhere in the world is never a perfectly flat-rate exercise, even with the class system above, real-world packing and courier costs vary from order to order. A few examples of where the table above is an estimate rather than an exact quote:
- Several heavy items from the same artisan. If you order 3 Heavy items (5–10 kg each) from one seller, the system charges the Heavy rate three times — but the artisan may be able to pack all 3 into a single box, which is sometimes cheaper to ship than three separate parcels, and sometimes not, depending on the items' actual size.
- Several items from different artisans. Each artisan ships from their own workshop, so an order combining a Small item from one seller and a Heavy item from another means two real, separate parcels, even though they're in the same cart.
- Bulky but light items. Large or oddly-shaped items (e.g. a big woven mat or a large ceramic piece) can take up more space than their weight class suggests. Couriers sometimes charge on volume ("dimensional weight") rather than actual weight, which the table doesn't capture.
- Customs and import duties. For deliveries outside Thailand, your local customs authority may apply import duties or fees on arrival — these are not included in the shipping cost shown at checkout.
